Ancient Roots. Modern Taste.

Ancient Roots. Modern Taste.

Viturra: The Eight-Millennium Vintage

Our story is not merely one of business; it is one of deep roots and enduring passion, a modern commitment to a heritage forged in the earliest days of civilization.

The seed of Viterra was first planted not in a modern boardroom, but in the mountainous cradle of Anatolia and the South Caucasus, where, around 5800 BCE, the first accidental fermentation of the wild Vitis sylvestris created the world’s original wine. For millennia, this region perfected the art, spreading wine culture across the ancient world.

Kaan Batuk’s journey is the latest chapter in this 8,000-year epic—a continuous effort to reclaim and celebrate that ancient mastery.

The New Vintage: Kaan and Viturra

Growing up immersed in this world—from walking the historical vineyards to understanding the mechanics of the warehouse floor—Kaan developed an intrinsic connection to every stage of the wine's life. He saw the craftsmanship, the potential, and the unfair gap between the historical excellence of Turkish wines and their modern, global presence.

Viturra is the natural extension of this lifelong immersion. It is Kaan's professional ambition coupled with a family destiny. We are not just importing bottles; we are transporting a legacy. Viturra exists to make these extraordinary Turkish wines accessible, understood, and truly celebrated in the UK, ensuring the oldest wine-producing region on Earth finally gets its due on the international stage.

The Family Legacy: Reclaiming the Vine

Kaan was born into the heart of a modern revival. His family were not just participants in the Turkish wine industry; they were its architects.

The Pioneer (The Great-Uncle): Kaan’s great-uncle, Güven Nil, founded Sarafin in 1989, one of Turkey's first boutique vineyards. This was more than a commercial venture; it was a pioneering effort to redefine premium Turkish winemaking and reestablish the nation as a global player, honoring the very ground where wine began.

The Backbone (The Father & Mother): Integral to this movement were Kaan's grandfather and father, who worked tirelessly for two decades. Following this, his father and mother launched an essential supply business, becoming the crucial artery of the modern trade—importing the specialized recyclable and sustainable corks, bottles, and closures needed to ensure the quality and longevity of the new Turkish vintages. For over 15 years, they have provided the necessary tools to sustain excellence.
